Calistoga, CA – June 23, 2105…Chico, CA drivers Jonathan Allard & Kyle Hirst are two of the favorites going into the Wine Country Classic this Saturday night. Both also happen to drive cars that have accumulated as much Calistoga Speedway success as anyone over the years. As owners, West Sacramento based Clyde Lamar has 13 main event wins to his credit, while Fresno based Dennis Roth has earned 14 main event victories at the famed half-mile.

Allard, a three-time King of the West 410 Sprint Car Series driving champion, has claimed two victories in his Calistoga Speedway career. The veteran is still looking for his first King of the West triumph of 2015, but did earn wins last week in weekly action at Silver Dollar Speedway and with the Civil War Series in Petaluma. Allard last year finished runner up at the Wine Country Classic and is currently in his second season driving the famed Tri-C Manufacturing No. 3c for owner Clyde Lamar.

Hirst has claimed the last two King of the West Series titles and has also driven to a pair of wins in his Calistoga career. The 27-year-old scored victory in the KWS season-opener at Placerville in April and last season ran third at the Wine Country Classic. After starting out the year in a different car, Hirst has reunited with the familiar Roth Motorsports No. 83jr machine owned by Dennis Roth. He’s coming off a runner up finish during the last KWS event in Stockton on June 13.

After winning the most recent King of the West 410 event at the Stockton Dirt Track, 18-year-old Dominic Scelzi of Fresno sits atop the series standings by 14-points over Campbell’s Bud Kaeding & 16-markers over Lemoore’s Carson Macedo. Fremont’s Shane Golobic & Elk Grove veteran Bobby McMahan round out the top-five going into this weekend. The remainder of the top-10 is filled out by Willie Croft, Brent Kaeding, DJ Netto, Allard and Jarrett Soares. 11174982_746845832101328_8957022745856259667_n

In addition to the King of the West 410 Sprints on Saturday, the Wingless Sprint Car Series presented by Joe Hunt Magnetos will also be in action. The Hunt Series made its Calistoga Speedway debut in April and put on a tremendous show in the main event, which was ultimately captured by Colton Slack of Brentwood.

Local driver Joe Stornetta from Napa came home in second, followed by Klint Simpson of Santa Rosa in third. Terry Shank Jr. also from Santa Rosa led the early laps and finished fourth. A great back & forth battle was seen for the lead, with much of the same expected at the Wine Country Classic.

This Friday June 26 the King of the West Series will be in action at the Ocean Speedway in Watsonville for the Pombo/Sargent Classic, before the tour invades Calistoga on Saturday for the Wine Country Classic. The event on Friday will be the first time that the long running Pombo/Sargent Classic is held at Ocean Speedway.
