Bobby Hogge IV victorious in Stockton
By Sean Stanish
With two rounds of action in the books, the IMCA All-Star Modified Tour headed further north to tackle the fast 3/8s mile Stockton Dirt Track Saturday evening. Bobby Hogge IV of Salinas was able to make it three different winners in the three races thus far this year. The perennial favorite in the division worked his way up from his tenth starting spot to take the win and a nice $1,000 check to go with it.
At the start of the 25-lap main event, outside pole-sitter Randy Brown of Chowchilla was scored as the leader while battling with Tulare victor Troy Foulger of Martinez. Foulger then had his time at the front, taking the lead from Brown to lead lap three. The first caution came out one lap later when Merced’s DJ Shannon stopped in turn three. On the restart, Troy Foulger continued to lead, but the pace was slowed again, this time for Atwater’s Ryan Porter, who rolled to a halt in turn one. Troy Foulger continued to show the way, but the rash of yellows continued. Early leader Randy Brown stopped in turn four to bring out caution number three. This forced a single file restart but the race was slowed again, this time for Walter Paul, who looped it around in turn four. On the restart, Troy Foulger had company at the front in the form of Chowchilla’s Alex Stanford and Bobby Hogge IV. Stanford made an excellent move around Foulger on the high side of the speedway on lap ten to grab the lead. Soon after, Hogge also passed Troy Foulger for position and then set his sights on Alex Stanford. Stanford’s lead only lasted one lap, as Bobby Hogge IV slid by for the top spot. The final yellow came out on lap 11 for fourth-place-running Cody Burke of Salinas, who turned it sideways in turn one. On the restart, Bobby Hogge IV steadily pulled away from Alex Stanford and the rest of the pack and cruised to victory by over three seconds. Alex Stanford brought it home second, with former Silver Dollar Speedway track champion Ryan McDaniel of Olivehurst capturing third. Multi-time Antioch Speedway track champ Troy Foulger slipped back to fourth and Darrell Hughes II of Manteca completed the top five. Susanville’s Riley Simmons, Livermore’s Brian Cass, Cody Burke, Austin Burke, and Rancho Cordova’s Josh Combs rounded out the top ten. Darrell Hughes II, Troy Foulger, and Alex Stanford won the eight-lap heat races. Foulger also took the victory in the four-lap Trophy Dash.
Ryan McDaniel sits atop the point standings with Riley Simmons in second seven markers out of the lead. Troy Foulger and Josh Combs are tied for third, 14 points behind McDaniel.
The IMCA All-Star Modified tour hits the black adobe clay at the Petaluma Speedway on July 9th for their next round of competition. The track is located at Sonoma-Marin County Fairgrounds in Petaluma, CA. The race was not on the original schedule, but was added to make up for the numerous rain outs earlier in the year. June 22nd Update: The race schedule for July 9th at Petaluma has been cancelled due to a scheduling conflict with Antioch Speedway. The August 13th race at Petaluma will go on as previously scheduled. The next race of the IMCA All-Star Modified Tour will be August 6th at Ocean Speedway in Watsonville, CA.
