Brad Furr Finds Victory Lane For the Second Time in 2018 with Ocean Sprints Presented by Taco Bravoracepmg
(PETERSEN MEDIA- Watsonville, CA)- For the second time in 2018, Brad Furr was able to find victory lane at Ocean Speedway as the Stockton, CA driver was able to withstand a wild feature event to win with the Ocean Sprints pres. by Taco Bravo during the tune up for this weekend’s big Howard Kaeding Classic.
Leading the field to green, Furr would get off to a tough start as he would slip all the way back to fourth as fellow veteran, Bud Kaeding jumped up front and looked strong early.
The caution flag would fly on the race’s second lap and it would bunch the field back up as Kaeding led the way over Cole Macedo, Jerry Bonnema, Furr, and Zane Blanchard.
When the race resumed, Kaeding would continue to look tough out front and would quickly pick up the back of the field and traffic would become an issue. Bobbing and weaving through traffic, Macedo would close in and challenge for the lead but the two-time winner at the track in 2018 was able to keep the youngster at bay.
Lap 17 would prove to be a pivotal lap in this race as an incident in turn one would change the complexion of the race. With Mitchell Faccinto and Richard Fajardo getting collected, Koen Shaw would also get in on the action. As Kaeding came up on the scene he would attempt to get off the racing surface to avoid it but would stall his engine and hand the lead over the Cole Macedo.
Macedo however would then make his way to the work area with a flat right-rear tire and Furr would now find himself out front with just 13 circuits left in the race.
Back underway Furr would become the new marked man as the always dangerous Justin Sanders was in second and chasing down the race leader as he was in search of his fourth Ocean Sprints win of the season.
While chasing after Furr, Sanders would soon have his hands full as Ryan Bernal entered the mix and began giving Sanders fits for second. Continuing to battle for second, Bernal would soon have issues with his left front and would come to a stop on the 21st lap, and a hard charging Bud Kaeding would find himself back in the mix as he was back in third.
The final nine-laps would see Furr lead the way, however Sanders would make a couple of attempts to grab the win but simply could not make anything stick.
Furr would race on to score the win over Sanders, Kaeding, Jerry Bonnema, and Tanner Boul.
With his win, Furr now moves into the Ocean Sprints pres. by Taco Bravo point lead with a 19 point advantage over Koen Shaw.
