Watsonville, CA – June 13, 2016…The Ocean Sprints presented by Taco Bravo will hit the halfway point for the 2016 season with round six on deck this Friday evening June 17 in Watsonville.

The event this weekend will also be the final outing for the Winged 360 Sprint Cars at Ocean Speedway until July 8. Next week a special event converges at the quarter-mile when the King of the West 410 Sprint Car Series makes its first appearance of the season. That night also marks the 31st annual Pombo/Sargent Classic.

On the Ocean Sprints presented by Taco Bravo side of things last week it was two-time champion Tommy Tarlton that got his first win of the season. The Easton, Ca wheel-man was able to get under Buddy Kofoid with just 12-laps left in the feature en route to the victory. Tarlton has claimed three straight podium finishes at the track and will be gunning for more on Friday.

Coming close to his second win last week Kofoid will be looking to put his machine up front once again this Friday. The 14-year-old from Penngrove, Ca eventually came home fourth following a nice save when he turned a complete 360 as Tarlton made the pass. Stockton’s Brad Furr led laps last week and tallied his second straight runner up finish at the conclusion. The 2013 Ocean Sprints champ has definitely gained strength the last couple events.

Salinas, Ca’s Jeremy Chisum had one of the best outings of his Ocean Sprints presented by Taco Bravo career last week. Chisum started ninth and ran a patient race to round out the podium. After a tough end to last week Watsonville’s Justin Sanders will be looking for redemption on Friday. The reigning Ocean Sprints champ led laps until contact knocked him out of the lead in the feature. Sanders earned a victory on May 13.

More drivers expected on Friday will include Gilroy’s Kurt Nelson, Fresno’s Koen & Kyler Shaw, Fremont’s Dustin Golobic, Salinas’ Jason Chisum, Fremont’s Dustin Golobic, Cottonwood’s Lucas Ashe, Hayward’s Danny Malfatti, Fresno’s Anthony Simone, Morgan Hill’s Nick Ringo Jr., San Jose’s Gary Nelson Jr., Lemoore’s Cole Macedo and others.

The front gate at Ocean Speedway will open at 4:30pm this Friday night with hot laps at 5:30pm, qualifying around 6pm and racing to follow. The pit gate will open at 2pm. Friday’s event also features the IMCA Sport Mods, American Stocks and 4-Bangers plus another round of Police-N-Pursuit.

All seating will be general admission with adult tickets $17, seniors 65 & older $16, children 6-12 $13 and kids five and under free. A family pack featuring two adults and two kids is available for $55. The Ocean Speedway is located on the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds in Watsonville, California with the physical address being 2601 East Lake Ave, Watsonville, CA 95076.

The Ocean Sprints & Ocean Speedway is held under the management of Prentice Motorsports Group, which also operates the King of the West 410 Sprint Car Series, the Civil War 360 Sprint Car Series presented by Flowmaster, the Wingless Sprint Car Series presented by Hunt Magnetos & the All Star Modified Tour.
