2017 Ocean Speedway Season Concludes Friday

Watsonville, CA – This Friday, the 2017 Ocean Speedway season will come to an end.  This Friday’s race is highlighted by the Ocean Sprints finale, which sees Sebastopol’s Geoff Ensign lead the point standings by 51 markers over Stockton’s Brad Furr.  Ensign will look for his first career Ocean Sprints championship, while Furr looks for his third.  Ensign’s key to the year has been consistency.  Although Ensign has no wins to his credit, he has only finished outside the top ten once and has scored nine top 5 finishes.  Back on September 22nd, Furr picked up his first win of the season, with Ensign finishing second.  Jeremy Chisum, Jason Chisum, and Justin Sanders round out the top 5 in the standings.

The IMCA SportMods wrap up their season, with Prunedale’s Matt Hagio poised to become the first two-time champion in the division’s history at the track.  He leads Hollister’s Mark Hartman, who won his first career feature last Friday, by 29 points.  Hagio has won a whopping nine times in the division this season.

In the American Stocks, San Jose’s Robert Gallaher has locked up the 2017 championship.  San Martin’s JC Elrod is in second, 87 points behind Gallaher.  65 points is the most a driver can earn in one event.  Santa Cruz’s Terry Campion won for the second time this season last Friday, with Gallaher finishing second.

In the Dwarf Cars, Camron Diatte of Salinas just needs to show up to clinch the 2017 championship.  Diatte has won six times this year, including the last four races.  Los Banos’ Gene Pires Jr. and Hollister’s Ryan Amlen completed the podium at the last event.  Both are looking for their first win of the year this Friday.
