Campion wins American Stock portion of Howard Kaeding Classic

By Sean Stanish

Watsonville, CA – Santa Cruz’s Terry Campion took his second win of the season Friday night after starting dead last in the feature. Campion also took the win in the eight-lap heat race. Robert Huckaby Sr., also of Santa Cruz, Gilroy’s Nick Triolo, San Jose’s John Farrell, and San Jose’s Charlie Hunter completed the top five. In the 20-lap A-Main, Watsonville’s Tony Oliveira led the first several laps, before being hounded by Terry Campion, who was up to second by the fifth lap. Oliveira held off Campion for a couple more laps, before losing it to last year’s champion. Campion then pulled away from the pack, while Oliveira, Nick Triolo, San Jose’s Katie Briggs, and Robert Huckaby Sr. fought over second. Meanwhile, Terry Campion cruised to the victory by nearly six seconds over Tony Oliveira, who was able to keep the runner-up spot. Nick Triolo, Robert Huckaby Sr., and point leader Katie Briggs rounded out the top five. The American Stocks are back in action this Friday. August 6th, the highlight on most American Stock driver’s calendars is the 19th Annual Mike Cecil Memorial, which will be an 80-lap main event, tentatively paying $500 to the winner.
