Watsonville, CA – Turlock’s Chris Falkenberg took his first IMCA Sport Mod win of the season at Ocean Speedway after a great battle with Adriane Frost and Anthony Giuliani.  In the lone heat race, Hollister’s Dennis Simunovich won over San Martin’s Justin McPherson, Watsonville’s Adriane Frost, Morgan Hill’s Anthony Giuliani, and Chris Falkenberg.  In the 20-lap A-Main, Anthony Giuliani led the first lap before a slight mistake in turn two cost him the lead.  Adriane Frost was now out front and looked strong, but Giuliani and Chris Falkenberg were right on her heels.  While racing for second, contact sent Anthony Giuliani darting towards the infield, eventually spinning out in turn three, bringing out the yellow.  On the restart, Chris Falkenberg took the lead from Adriane Frost, who then had to battle with Dennis Simunovich to try and keep second.  At the front, Falkenberg gapped the field and went on to win by four and a half seconds over Dennis Simunovich.  Former 4-Banger track champs Adriane Frost and Justin McPherson settled for third and fourth with last week’s winner Jim DiGiovanni of Morgan Hill completing the top five.  The IMCA Sport Mods return this Friday with the Pombo/Sargent KWS race.

San Jose’s Robert Gallaher triumphed once again in the American Stocks.  The former Sport Mod Rookie of the Year swept the evening by also taking the heat race victory.  In the single heat race, outside pole-sitter Robert Gallaher launched out in front of the field and led all eight laps in the process.  Katie Briggs and John Farrell, both of San Jose were second and third, with Freedom’s William Kennedy and Watsonville’s Tony Oliveira completing the top five.  In the 20-lap main event, Tony Oliveira led the first six laps before Robert Gallaher made his move for the lead.  Just behind the race for the lead, a fierce battle for third ensued with Katie Briggs, John Farrell, and William Kennedy.  The battle eventually took its toll.  Farrell pulled off under green flag conditions, but Kennedy stopped on track with a flat right rear on lap nine to bring out the first and only yellow flag.  While under yellow, Farrell rejoined four laps down.  On the restart, Robert Gallaher pulled away from the field and had a straightaway length lead after several laps.  Gallaher cruised to victory four seconds ahead of Tony Oliveira, who had Katie Briggs in tow the final stint of the race.  After tire issues the last few weeks, Katie Briggs’ third place was her best finish since a fifth on opening night.  Watsonville’s George Fernandez finished fourth with John Farrell getting credit for fifth.  The American Stocks have a couple weeks off and will be back July 8th.

In the 4-Bangers, Jason Womack of Manteca visited Ocean Speedway for the first time and wound up in victory lane.  Womack also took the heat race win, coming out on top of Felton’s Kate Beardsley, Aromas’ Paul Laoretti, Turlock’s Lucy Falkenberg, and Modesto’s Chris Corder who rounded out the top five.  In the 20-lap feature, Lucy Falkenberg led the opening laps before relinquishing the lead to Prunedale’s DJ Keldsen.  Keldsen pulled a slight gap, but a caution for Felton’s Bill Beardsley on lap eight tightened the field back up.  On the restart, DJ Keldsen and Jason Womack battled for the lead with Keldsen leading the way.  Womack stayed in his wheel tracks, looking for a way by.  The opportunity came on the last lap, when he drove under DJ Keldsen in turn one and cleared him by the time they were on the back stretch.  Keldsen wasn’t able to respond and finished second, once again after a last lap pass for the win.  Eight seconds behind was Lucy Falkenberg in third, with 2-time feature winner Chris Corder fourth.  3-time feature winner this season Kate Beardsley was fifth.  The 4-Bangers also have a couple weeks off before they return July 8th.
