Ocean Sprints Round 8 Set for Friday Night

Watsonville, CA – The Ocean Sprints pres. by Taco Bravo will continue their championship fight this Friday at Round 8.  Last week, Aromas’ Justin Sanders picked up his third main event victory of the year.   Cole Macedo of Lemoore came close to grabbing his first career win, but it wasn’t meant to be this time.  Stockton’s Brad Furr had a good points night with a third-place finish, with Campbell’s Bud Kaeding and Fresno’s Mathew Moles completing the top five.  Koen Shaw still leads the championship standings, but now only by 4 over Brad Furr, who is on the hunt for his third career track championship.  Tracy’s Kyle Offill, Jeremy Chisum of Salinas, and Justin Sanders complete the current top five in the standings.

The IMCA Modifieds are back for another round of action.  Last week, Robert Marsh of Salinas picked up his second win of the year and his first since opening night.  Marsh, who rolled over at the prior event, had to fend off championship leaders Cody and Austin Burke, IMCA California state points leader Shane DeVolder of Pacifica, and Antioch’s Carl Berendsen, who completed the top five.  With seven points-paying nights left, Cody Burke leads his brother Austin by 9 points, with Alex Wilson in third 19 points back.

The American Stocks will be halfway through their season at the completion of their next event this Friday.  Last week, Watsonville’s Billy Nelson dominated the feature race to grab his first win of the year and his 30th of his career in the division.  Watsonville’s Tony Oliveira had one of his best runs of the year with a second-place finish, with Robert Gallaher of San Jose, San Martin’s JC Elrod, and San Jose’s Matt Kile rounding out the top five.  Factoring in the two drop dates, Matt Kile and Robert Gallaher are still separated by just two points, with JC Elrod sitting in third, 41 points behind Kile.

The Four Banger division has statistically been the most competitive in 2018, with eight different drivers winning the eight events held.  Gilroy’s Tom Summers was the latest to add his name to the win list by capturing his first career A-Main last Friday.  Tres Pinos’ Chuck Doglione, Felton’s Kate Beardsley, and Abigail Kennedy and Dakota Keldsen, both of Watsonville, completed the top five last week.  With just two races left in their 2018 season, Abigail Kennedy has a single point lead over Dakota Keldsen.  The Beardsley family – Kate, Nicole, and father Bill – are 10, 12, and 25 points behind Kennedy.  After the July 13th race, the Four Bangers are off until the championship-deciding night on September 7th

The South Bay Dwarf Cars return to the track for the first time in several weeks.  Back on June 22nd, Gilroy’s Zach Price won for the second time in a row ahead of Gene “Punky” Pires of Los Banos, Santa Cruz’s Terre Rothweiler, San Jose’s Mark Biscardi, and Campbell’s Eric Weisler.
